7 Quick Takes

My wife is nesting and trying her best to take full advantage of it. She has been cleaning and organizing anything she can get her hands on. She has also been making homemade tomato sauce from the garden, fruit preserves, and cut and bagged pounds of green peppers gifted to us today by friends of ours. We have had tons of fresh home cooked meals from the garden as well. She is an amazing wife and mother!

Max had an epiphany yesterday. All the words on his new shirt were backwards, or so he thought while he brushed his teeth. I played along like it was a real mystery and had him write his name on a piece of paper and then go read it in the mirror, he sees it all clearly now.

This is the first year that I will not be greeting new students as they enter my classroom to start a new year. The degree in which my life has changed since taking the leap of faith and leaving my teaching career to work from home is starting to hit me as the new school year is set to begin Wednesday. I plan on going to my school on opening day (the day teachers prep for the start of the school year) to help do what I have done on this day for the past 7 years, which is help teachers set up their computers, document cameras, and figure our how to use some of their new computer programs. I do not know if this will make it harder to not be teaching or easier…..we shall see.

A friend gave us an old, warped, wobbly, splintery, rough shape swing set about a month ago. I think the phrase used was, take it if you want it…if not I’ll just throw it on the bonfire. It has been our kids’ favorite activity from the moment it arrived. It makes me feel good that my kids can love something that is in such rough of condition.

Speaking of our friend who so generously gave us tons of green peppers….

He is an amazing artist with a very unique gift, the ability to etch life like drawings on leather. This is a totally unique skill and form of art you have to see to believe. Some day I will have him etch the Divine Mercy image, or a monstrance, or maybe Our Lady of Guadeloupe. His site is baldmansmarkings.com
